After the Korean War many people lost their home and even their family. This created a big issue in Korea, because we did not develop the system for orphans and poor people. Even after the war there were many events which took away people’s life, jobs and etc. The number of orphans and homeless old people start to increase. This was and still is a big national issue in South Korea. It is significance to me because all my family work as a social worker and provides shelter, food and etc for the poor people. Our community has over 300 people and 100workers, it is known all over Korea. The community of built by my grandfather who was also poor, he couldn’t graduate middle school because of the financial problem; however, he decided to work for the poor people like himself. At the age of 17 decided to create a place where any homeless people can stay. Since there were lots of orphans, he started off with creating orphanage with the support of government. Not only because there were lots of them, but also they problems in society, the orphans were not educated and the old people did not get any health care. Some people even died from hunger, there were lots of stealing going on by the orphans and lastly groups of gang accept the orphans as there member. However when my grandfather started the community the city became much cleaner and quiet many people in Korea respect me and I am proud of him. Our family has been continuing this community for past 53 years and I will be continuing the community when I grow up.
